How to Read Piano Chord Diagrams
Each diagram shows one octave of the piano keyboard. Highlighted keys (in purple) are the notes you play simultaneously to form the chord. The note names are shown below each diagram.
Piano Chord Basics
A major chord is built from the root, major third, and perfect fifth (e.g., C-E-G for C major). A minor chord flattens the third (e.g., C-Eb-G for C minor). Seventh chords add a fourth note. Start with major and minor triads, then progress to 7th chords and beyond.
